Grade-Level Challenges!
5th Grade: How can we build a grappling device to grab and hold the most weight and then transport the most Martian “rocks” to the human habitat?
4th Grade: How can we create a safe mars rover that protects the EGG-stronaut and then travels the farthest distance? 3rd Grade: How can we build a boat capable of carrying the most passengers?? 2nd Grade: How can we create the tallest freestanding structure out of only newsprint and masking tape? 1st Grade: How can we build the strongest structure using only gumdrops and toothpicks?? Kindergarten: How can we build the strongest structure using only gumdrops and toothpicks?? TimelineMay 8: Engineering Kickoff Assemblies.
May 9: Classes are introduced to their Engineering Problem. Groups design 1st prototype and then test to failure. May 10: Groups redesign solutions based on analysis of first test. Classrooms hold the classroom competition. Medals are awarded to classroom champions. May 11: Champion groups from each class are introduced to the new engineering problem (increased difficulty); groups go through the design process and create final prototype. May 12: Grade-Level Competitions. Each champion group's prototype is tested in front of the whole grade level. One group will be crowned champion from each grade level and will bring home the champion trophy to their classroom! Link to detailed events schedule. |
