Earth ScienceOnce a week, students will become geologists, astronomers, or meteorologists and in some cases even a volcanologist during our Earth Science Lab. They will learn the three overarching concepts; Earth’s Systems, Earth and Human Activity and lastly, Earth’s Place in the Universe. The students will experience hands-on science and engineering experiments and have fun discovering about something new each week about our Earth! They will also collaborate their discoveries through MysteryScience which is a paid program at our school.
Earth Science Lab is aligned with NGSS Science and Engineering practices according to each grade level. Physical ScienceStudents are introduced to the basic laws of mechanics, energy and motion through hands-on engaging science experiments. Students learn to hypothesize, design experiments, observe, measure and develop critical thinking skills.
The students use springs, balloons, rubber bands, toy cars, rockets, levers, scales, airplanes, boats, catapults and small nuclear reactors in their experiments to prove their hypotheses. |
Life ScienceOver the course of a 9 week quarter, students will study plants, animals, insects, living systems, and environments according to applicable grade level standards. Students will attend the life science lab 1 day a week for 1 hour and 20 minutes at a time.
After each lab session students will be assigned homework. Homework is due at the next lab session. Each lab session has a hands on component ranging from growing plants, constructing beetle runways, observing crayfish, to conducting yeast experiments. Computer ScienceStudents at Brentwood Science Magnet get to experience 2 computer labs, 4 iPad labs, and an amazing full-time computer science teacher.
